This "reading machine" is a simulation of Robert Carlton Brown's reading machine (a prototype was built in 1931). The texts available in this simulation are taken from the collection of the processed texts called "readies" in The Readies for Bob Brown's Machine (1931).

Four other works by Brown, edited with introductions by Craig Saper, including The Readies, Brown's earlier manifesto about the machine, are available at Roving Eye Press (or on Amazon).

Brown's biography, Craig Saper's Amazing Adventures of Robert Carlton Brown: Real-Life Zelig of the Twentieth Century (Fordham University Press), will be available in the spring of 2016.

We hope to release this digital humanities project with a 100+ page guide to the project in a linked publication from another university press
